About

Who are we?

We’re Amy Harcourt and Kurt Wallace Martin, bicycles consultants and the principals of Bikes Make Life Better. We founded Bikes Make Life Better out of a personal conviction that they really do.

Amy

I spent many years in corporate marketing and ran my own marketing consultancy for more than a decade. I’ve worked with high-tech start-ups, Fortune 500 companies and large government agencies and understand the motivations that drive decisions.

I came to San Francisco from the Midwest where I had to drive to mail a letter. Carless, I get around the Bay Area on a bike, including to and from client meetings, and am determined to look good doing it (yes, I ride in heels!).

When I’m not working, I do long scenic rides that involve lots of chatting and coffee.

My mission: to help people just like me make the shift to a bike.

Kurt

I did my masters studies in environmental education long before it was cool to be green.

I did business IT for Ford for 12 years and was on the team that integrated mobile devices with cars. I’ve run a design and consulting practice for years and love working on complex opportunities.

I came from Detroit where cars rule the road and often commuted by bike (in the snow!). I put in extensive miles bike commuting in urban Japan and Martha’s Vineyard. Nothing like heavy traffic and snow to improve your skills!

I moved to San Francisco with two bikes. It’s by far the best way to get around.

My mission: to make it easy for others to do the same!
